Ikot Ekop community in Mkpat Enin Local council in Akwa Ibom state has flagged off “Ikot Ekop for Udom 2019” a door-to-door campaign to rack up support for the re-election of Udom Emmanuel for a second term in office.
At the inauguration, which held at the office of the People’s Democratic Party in Ikot Ekop, the Special Assistant (SA) on Power to Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited, Engr. Meyen Etukudo hailed the group leader, Sunday Ekwere for the initiative.
He said Ikot Ekop community has benefited from the administration of Udom Emmanuel stating that Emmanuel completed a water project in the community, installed power transformers in the five villages and last year the Governor through the Meyen Atta Ukpum Empowerment Programme (MAUYEP), empowered fifty artisans from the community with N100,000 each to improve their businesses.
The Governor’s aide assured that a similar scheme would be implemented for the women in Ikot Ekop, “we will fix a date when a micro finance bank that we are holding talks with will meet all the women in Ikot Ekop to give each of them soft loans to do business” he said.
Engr. Etukudo explained that the heavy down pour impeded the road construction from Ukpum to Ikot Abiaha community but assured that the road would be completed before the end of the year. He called on the youths in Ikot Ekop to continue their support for Udom Emmanuel reminding them that the Governor appointed him, an indigene of Ikot Ekop, as the SA on Power and MD of Ibom power.
He formally inaugurated the group charging them to pursue their course with peace as he enjoined them to grow in number.
