The victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel at the 2019 Governorship election is assured in the ten local government areas that form Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district in Akwa Ibom North West, the Chairman of Ibom Power Company, Engr. Etido Inyang has said.
Speaking in an interview with Journalists, Etido Inyang said, “Governor Udom Emmanuel is well loved in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district. As one of the divine mandate co-ordinators in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district, among the ten local councils that comprise the district, we have been meeting and we have compared notes. I can speak authoritatively that Udom Emmanuel will win convincingly in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district”.
Addressing the issue of defection in the district, the former Commissioner said that the number of defectors that followed the former minority leader is ‘infinitesimal’.
“I went into a meeting where twenty names were selected from the ten Local Government Areas in the district that is an estimated 200 people in all. No one was missing. All stakeholders both former public office holders that formed the caucus and statutory delegates are not missing. The principal actors, political gladiators in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district are intact for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”.
He urged Akwa Ibom residents to support the re-election of Udom Emmanuel for a second term stating that “Udom Emmanuel has a vision for the people of Akwa Ibom State. He has plans to alleviate the suffering of the people which he has already started. These plans will come into fruition during in his second term. The ‘power for all’ will kick start next year, 2019”.
He spoke further that the Governor has attracted several investments into the state like the Meter Company, coconut refinery, Syringe Company and Flour Mills along with the strategic investments in the power sector.
“You have to receive the full dividend of democracy in his second term. If this one man has been able to attract the industries that he has attracted now, it tells you that more people are coming in. That is what he is up for, to alleviate the suffering of our people. I want you to use your PVCs to vote him for a second term so we can get the full benefit of our democracy”.
The Chairman however expressed concerns about the delayed assent to the electoral Act by President Muhammadu Buhari. “I just want to believe the President is still reading it to understand but I hope in the time spent reading, the timeline for assent does not lapse”.
He therefore called for a peaceful election while urging PDP stalwarts to shun violence and instead use their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVCs) to ensure a new government at the centre and the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
