Women across the twenty-four villages that comprise Ukpum NNya in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area have benefitted from a feeding and empowerment programme initiated by the Special Assistant on Power to Governor Udom Emmanuel and Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited, Engr. Meyen Etukudo.
Speaking at the ceremony held recently, Engr. Etukudo said the feeding and empowerment programme that is in its second phase is meant to better the lot of women selected from Ukpum Nnya.
“What we are doing here is the second phase of the Community-feeding programme of the Governor’s wife led by the Chief Protocol to the Governor, Edmund Ufang to feed two thousand women across the eighty-seven villages, fourteen wards and the four clans that comprise Mkpat Enin” he said.
He spoke further that at the first phase, which held at the Government secondary school, Ukam in Mkpat Enin, wife of the Governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel donated food items, clothes and money to over two thousand women selected from the eighty-seven villages that comprise Mkpat Enin.
“In this season of Christmas, we must touch lives spiritually, physically, financially, materially and socially that is the reason we are giving this food items and money for the women start various businesses.
The Governor’s Aide said, “Very soon, before this year runs out, Governor Udom Emmanuel and his wife would visit Mkpat Enin again to commission the 132/33kV, 2 x 60MVA substation at Ekim. He added that the substation would provide steady 24hours power supply to Mkpat Enin, Onna, Orukanam, Eastern Obolo and Ikot Abasi local government areas.
Wife of Engr. Etukudo, Mrs Victoria Etukudo, who spearheaded the feeding programme across the four clans disclosed that the programme was targeted at vulnerable women in Mkpat Enin to ensure that the women have food to eat and to empower them to own businesses.
The ceremony was attended by the wife of the Chairman, Mkpat Enin local government area, Mrs Ima-Abasi Ekanem Brown; member representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo at the National Assembly, Hon. Francis Uduyok; the Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Prof. Eno Ibanga; former Transition Chairman of Mkpat Enin, Mrs Ekaette Usip and the PDP candidate for the Akwa ibom State House of Assembly election, Victor Ekwere among others.
